Level 2: Short Vowels & Simple CVC Words

Focus: Blending consonants and short vowel sounds to read simple words

Level 2 contains 24 Lessons.  Now that students know individual sounds, they begin blending them to read short CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words like cat, bed, pig, dog, and sun. This level strengthens decoding skills and introduces basic spelling patterns.

Key Skills:

• Mastering short vowel sounds (a, e, i, o, u)

• Reading and writing CVC words

• Listening for middle vowel sounds

• Beginning sentence reading with simple structures
